It's the sound of a gunshot on a dark city street
And the dreams you remember between empty sheets
But it's something much sadder, and somehow much worse for your soul
This is not rock and roll

It's the big stained glass window at an old fashioned church
And the brick that flew threw it in your own faithless search
It's the bad news for you that you already knew in your heart
It's the time that you spend getting over yourself
