Week 24 - Back Where I Belong (06-16-18)

from Song A Week, Volume 3 by James Tristan Redding

/

lyrics

I never thought I’d say it or believe that it was true
But I guess it really stood the test of time
That to understand a man it takes walking in his shoes
And there ain’t no greener grass on the other side

No and that’s been welcome news to a man who’s got the blues
From his beat up baseball cap down to his toes
But I got no more to lose since day that I lost you
So I guess it’s time I try to let it go

Yeah I did the best I could so I hope it’s not too late
And I’ve heard it said there ain’t no right or wrong
Sometimes I’m just amazed at everything it takes
To get me going back where I belong

Now the first thing I could see when I opened up my eyes
In the color of the early morning sun
Was the picture on the wall of you standing by my side
Ain’t no big surprise my heart was stunned

On a morning just like this when the light came pouring in
And reflected off the letter that you wrote
When I read it every morning and I wonder where you’ve been
All the words feel like they’re sticking in my throat

Yeah I did the best I could so I hope it’s not too late
And I’ve heard it said there ain’t no right or wrong
Sometimes I’m just amazed at everything it takes
To get me going back where I belong

Before I really do get really over you
One question still remains within my mind
Just where do I belong and just what kind of song
Can get me headed back across that line
