Been so long since I saw Jesus guess I’d long since quit believin’
He’d ever heal this heart of mine
When I passed a couple people talkin’ underneath a steeple
Don’t know why I walked inside

I’d been carryin’ the baggage through the fire and the ashes
That finally brought me to my knees
When the preacher started preachin’ pretty soon I got the feelin’
He was speakin’ straight to me

God the Father made the sunset and He gave us eyes to see it
But morning noon or night we need to help someone who needs it
God the Son gave us The Word and we have the ears to hear it
But action brings that word to life by the grace of the Holy Spirit

Now the prayin’ doesn’t hurt but the doin’ that’s what frees us
By faith and works the whole world is our church, then we’re seein’ Jesus

As I sat and had a listen I could feel my burden liftin
Then I thought of all the things I had to change
But no promises or sorries can rewrite these old stories
Cause the answer ain’t in what I say
