Week 47 - Paper Wood And Glass (191117)

from Song A Week, Volume 4 by James Tristan Redding

/

lyrics

Didn’t count the hours the footsteps or the miles
Swear it feels like yesterday I left it all behind
I sold the stuff worth selling and gave away the rest
All except the photograph sitting on my desk

Torn around the corners and faded pretty hard
Looks like any day now the frame could fall apart
Still it stands there steady a statue from the past
Half my life in black and white in paper, wood, and glass

Something in the shadows makes the clock rewind
Brings me back to better days when all we had was time
Little league and laughs instead of lawyers, lies and looks
All those Kodak flashes burn like matches in a book

Torn around the corners and faded pretty hard
Looks like any day now the frame could fall apart
Still it stands there steady a statue from the past
Half my life in black and white in paper, wood, and glass

Wouldn’t trade it wouldn’t wash away the tears
A little pain is worth it for the years that you were here
Some nights I wonder if you ever wish you could
Step back in time inside that paper, glass, and wood
