240118: Put Down The Stone

from Leap Songs, Part 3 by James Tristan Redding

/

about

Author's note: Author's note: your "good book" and mine may well differ. I don't think that is a problem.

lyrics

I keep forgetting this house is made of glass
And I keep on digging bones up from up the past
Keep on reaching for something that ain't there
Throwing stones when I oughta' be saying prayers

Now I love my neighbor when my neighbor treats me good
Thank my savior when it all looks how I think it should
Keep these rocks in my pocket just in case
God doesn't show and I need to do his job today

Hard as I'm trying not to sin
Seems to haunt the skin I'm in
For all my wishing to do this on my own
Need to pick up the good book and put down the stone

My own reflection it follows me around
Paints my memory like tears upon a clown
And if only you all were perfect to the core
Well then I wouldn't need these pebbles any more
