Fastballs (240216)

from Loose Licks by James Tristan Redding

/

about

Co-written with Michael August.

lyrics

They called me slugger and handed me a bat
I stepped up to the plate
You know the difference is half a second flat
Between too early and too late

Coach was coaching pitching bits of wisdom
He told me life's a game
Win or lose I made sure I listened
Remember every word today

Ain't it funny how the fastballs fly
Hit or miss in the wink of an eye
There's hardly time to wipe away the tears

You strike out then you hit a homer
Before you know it the game is over
And the fans all disappear
Seems like the fastballs get faster every year

I was yay high when I started playing ball
Running 'round the bases
Let me tell you since the days when I was small
Nothing really changes
